Scottish marketing campaigns are always a bit different, featuring Scottish culture, charm and humour. This week’s Marketing Society Star Awards have highlighted just how successful Scottish marketing is in catching attention!
Greener Scotland – “Emissions Impossible”
Launched in 2016, the objectives of Greener Scotland’s climate change campaign aimed to emphasise that lots of small actions will make a big difference. The television advert shows one man’s mission to help Scotland fight climate change. Using a superhero character with the caption “Saving The World Isn’t Just for The Movies,” the advert clearly shows these environmental aims:
• To turn down your thermostat
• Set your washing machine to 30 degrees
• Cut down on food waste
• Encouraging people to walk instead of driving
The campaign was spread across television, digital outdoor, supported by the Green Plan app and more. Successful in mixing a popular movie format, humour and for an important matter. The Leith advertising agency pulled off another memorable Scottish marketing campaign!
Daily Record – “An Ode to Diehards”
Another extremely Scottish marketing campaign is the Daily Record’s tribute to Scotland’s football fans. The advertising campaign “changed perceptions of their brand by creating an ad for diehards, by diehards”. Gaining a positive reaction from Scottish football fans, the campaign was seen as a valuable way of selling Scottish football.
As well as being a successful ad for the Daily Record, across the country football fans felt this advert truly captured the passion held for Scottish football.
MacSween – “Haggiswatch”
Another clever advertisement campaign which incorporates Scottish humour, heritage and stereotypes is the food company MacSween’s campaign “Haggiswatch” from January. The television advert features a Gamekeeper Archie who is trying to track down the “common haggis.”
A parody of the BBC programme Springwatch, the television ad was released in the run up to Burns Night. A well respected and recognised company, MacSween gained even more attention due to this different and well conducted campaign.
